To develop my skills in making a digital portfolio and Wiki Space
By working in small groups and setting up wiki groupies to help each other. Continue to use the wiki and gain more knowledge of the program.
I waste far too much time in everything I do on the Wiki. I need to become more time efficient.
To implement the Reading Recovery Program for the students the lowest reading level and to be able to discontinue those students off the program within 20 weeks.
By using my Reading Recovery knowledge and continuing to go to ongoing continuing contact in Bendigo.
With a new tutor this year and a new text we may learn a lot about Marie Clay and Reading Recovery
To use the Maths Data in P-4 to implement a small group and 1-1 program to help shift our students in their Mathematical skills.
Use the data and my knowledge of maths to organise like and needy students and to work out a program that best suits their needs.
Initial reaction in looking at some of the data that there are some alarming data that students will need a lot of work to move them.
Reflection in May Reading Recovery- all students are movingEthan started on Dictated Text and now in week 13 is is reading Level 13. ie moving 1 level a week. There is a lot of support from home and Ethan is very keen to learn. Ethan lives and breathes farming and we always have lots to talk about and write about.
Stephanie also started on Dictated Text. Stephanie is level 1 funded and it took Stephanie a good 6 weeks to actually start looking at the print, concentrating and not take two readings to get a new book at instructional level. Stephanie is now reading at level 8 and is reading and monitoring her own reading. She is keen to read and she knows that she can read. She now need very little support when reconstructing her cut up sentence. I’m really pleased with the progress and confidence that Stephanie is showing.
Blake started on level 3 and is now on Level 14. He is working hard and is more confident to have a go at unknown words thought he would still like to appeal and be told the word rather than work on it himself. Blake is moving probably as fast as he is able to through the levels considering the lack of support he gets at home. Holly also started at level 3 and is now on level 13. Holly finds reading, concentrating and all school work hard. She stagnated on level 10 for a few weeks regrouped and got going again. It may be of interest to get Holly referred at the end of 20 weeks if she doesn’t make level 16.
Maths The maths data has been very interesting and mind boggling.
Student C in grade 3 has massive gaps in its learning of Maths. Didn’t know numbers beyond 109 and didn’t know place value or how numbers work.At times doesn’t know before and after and After working with that student for 3 weeks it was suggested to get that student assessed and we are waiting for that assessment before proceeding much further.
I’m now working with Emma in Grade 1 and Holly also in grade 1. Emma has trouble in 1-1 counting, subitising, conservation of number, counting on and before and after numbers. Holly doesn’t know cannot orally recall numbers names. ICT I find I don’t use by Wiki often enough and find it frustrating to wasts so much time each time I return to it. A lot of other P-4 staff also find the same trouble and we tend to work together and help each other then time allows. I mainly use for reflection on my goals.
Reflection in August Reading Recovery - Ethan Blake and Holly have all been discontinued off the Reading Recovery Program, Ethan tested off on Level 16, Blake on level 19 and Holly Level 18. Stephanie will be tested off at the end of this week at 23 weeks and should test off about 16 17.I have started Keely on dictated text and Elliot at level 6 and Jasmine who is continued from St Killians is on level 14. When Stephanie goes off then Lyndy will start the program. Ethan has been referred for assessment and we are waiting for this to take place hopefully before the end of this term. All of these students from the first intake of 09 are at risk. Blake receives no support at home, Stephanie has ID funding and Holly and Ethan have limited ability and all of these students should receive weekly follow up. Maths The maths data has been very interesting and mind boggling. Since May student Cs assessment is taking place and we were waiting to see if the findings of the assessment. While an IQ test is still to be preformed the student has no short term memory problem. We will now start doing the Common Misunderstandings level 1 (trusting counting) and level 2 (Place value the importance of moving beyond counting by ones the structure of base 10 numeration system) to assess where that student’s weaknesses lie however they seem to be different each week. Student E‘s extra help will be mainly with counting and I will also do the level 1 trusting counting in the common misunderstandings.
